Violins, Violas, Cellos

Edo Sartori was born in Schio in May 1961. He is a luthier specialising in the construction of bowed string instruments. In 2002, he began his journey in violin making, as a self-taught craftsman and at a relatively late stage in life. Encouraged by promising early results, he decided to refine his skills by training with some of Italy’s most esteemed luthiers, with the goal of mastering the classical Cremonese method—particularly the use of the internal mold, a technique he still employs in his work. He later expanded his expertise by attending advanced courses in Milan and Trento, where he also explored the use of the external mold. In addition to violins, violas, and cellos, he builds violas da gamba and baroque instruments. In his instrument making, Sartori aims for ease of sound production, a timbre with a distinctly Italian character, and precise dynamic control. These are qualities that support even the most demanding musical performances. He favors oil-based varnishes, applying them carefully to enhance both tone and aesthetic. He participated in the Pisogne violin making competition in 2008 and 2010, earning second place in both editions with two cellos. In 2012, he opened his own workshop in Santorso (VI), relocating it in 2015 to Schio (VI), where he currently works. Alongside building new instruments, he also offers repair and setup services. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Associazione Liutaria Italiana – Professional Luthiers (A.L.I.).
