Nicola Enrico Antonio Monzino was born in Milan in 1970. He carried a legacy in his name, one that would remain dormant for many years. His professional journey began in the family business, which specialised in the distribution of musical instruments, and later continued with the company Gibson USA. In 2008, the economic crisis affected many sectors and presented a significant opportunity: to rethink the future by looking to the past. It was at this moment that Nicola chose to take on the burden, and the honor, of reviving an ancient craft, returning to the artisanal production of musical instruments, a tradition that had ended with his grandfather, Antonio Monzino, the last luthier in the family. With a natural talent for craftsmanship and deep respect for a luthier tradition that had run through the Monzino family for over 200 years, dating back to around 1750, he embarked on a path to reclaim the techniques and secrets of this art. In 2014, he was admitted to the Civica Scuola di Liuteria in Milan, where he studied “String instrument making” under Maestro Paola Vecchio and “Bow maintenance” with Maestro Piero Cavalazzi. In 2019, he attended a restoration course with Maestro Carlos Arcieri. Constantly striving for personal and professional growth, he found a mentor in Maestro Dario Segala, based in Verbania. He is currently responsible for the collection of antique instruments held by the Antonio Carlo Monzino Foundation, where he actively contributes to educational and cultural workshops. He specialises in the construction and repair of traditional violins, violas, and cellos.
