Mariotto Guido was born in Mantua on the 25th of May 25 1975, he began frequenting the workshop of his father, Master Luthier Gianni Mariotto, from a very young age. Under his father’s guidance, he had his first contact with the world of violin making. After completing his secondary education and earning a diploma as a surveyor, he dedicated himself full-time to the construction and restoration of double basses and cellos. To refine his craftsmanship and working techniques, he attended the carving and sculpture workshop of Maestro Gianni Massagrande. He later began making violins and violas under the mentorship of Maestro Mario Gadda. His production of violins, violas, and cellos is inspired by the Mantuan models of Stefano Scarampella and Gaetano Gadda. In 2001, he was awarded a gold medal in the double bass category at the 8th Violin Making Exhibition-Competition in Baveno. In 2003, he received an Honorable Mention in the double bass category at the 10th “Antonio Stradivari” International Violin Making Competition. In 2009, he was awarded a silver medal in the same category at the 12th edition of the competition. In 2018, he received the bronze medal in the double bass category at the 15th edition. In 2021, he was awarded the gold medal in the double bass category at the 16th “Antonio Stradivari” International Violin Making Competition. That same year, he also received the prestigious Stauffer Prize for the best acoustic performance in the double bass category. He has restored numerous fine instruments, and his own instruments are now played by soloists and members of leading Italian and international orchestras.
