Julian Lorenzo Cancelliere was born in Buenos Aires in 1982. He studied art at the Buenos Aires School of Art, demonstrating great talent and proficiency. Drawn to music and art, he began learning how to make musical instruments, studying with local Buenos Aires violin makers such as Gervasio Barreiro. In 2013, he received a scholarship from the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires to specialise at the 'A. Stradivari' International School of Violin Making in Cremona.
During this time, he honed his craftsmanship under the guidance of Maestri Massimo Negroni and Angelo Sperzaga, and his restoration techniques under the tutelage of Alessandro Voltini and Claudio Amighetti.
He also attended advanced building courses with Davide Sora and setup and maintenance courses with Fulvio Lazzari. In 2016, he won the 'Flavio Smerieri Prize' for violin makers.
He graduated in 2017, earning the diploma of Maestro Liutaio (Master Violin Maker). During this time, he also collaborated with Fabio Volta's workshop. Volta had been a student of Pier Angelo Balzarin, and our protagonist studied with Martin Gabbani, deepening his knowledge of the building and varnishing techniques of the great Cremonese school.
To this day, he continues to work in his workshop in the historic centre of Cremona.
