Roberto Collini was born in Crema, in the province of Cremona, on the 4th of January 1964. He started studying violin from a young age, initially as a player and then, in 1979, by enrolling at the “International School of Violin Making” in Cremona where he was under the guidance of Maestro Giorgio Scolari. He graduated in 1983 with top marks and then he completed his training as an apprentice in Maestro Scolari’s workshop. Since 1983, he has lived and worked in Crema, while continuing for several years to refine his professional skills under two of the most important contemporary Italian luthiers; Maestro Arnaldo Morano and Maestro Gio Batta Morassi. This experience broadened his artistic perspective and sensitivity, and gave him an in-depth knowledge of classical Italian instruments. During the same period, he also earned a bow-making diploma under the guidance of Maestro Giovanni Lucchi. In 1996, he crafted a string quartet for the Quartetto di Torino. Since 2000, he has been a member of the EILA (Entente Internationale des Luthiers et Archetiers). Today, many renowned musicians from prestigious orchestras such as La Scala Theatre Orchestra, the Orchestra of Tuscany, Teatro La Fenice, the Arena of Verona, and the Orchestra of Sanremo play his instruments. Roberto Collini has received numerous official awards in violin-making competitions, winning eight gold medals, four silver, two bronze, and four certificates of merit for the quality of sound in his violins.
