Jun Abe was born in Japan.
From 1981 to 1983, he completed an apprenticeship at the workshop of Maestro Yu Iida, who belonged to the Capicchioni school.
In 1984, he relocated to Salzburg, Austria, where he spent a year and a half working for a string-instrument firm specialising in repair and restoration.
In 1985, he relocated to Florence to begin his career under the guidance of Maestro Usui Mitsumasa, a student of Igino Sderci. He subsequently opened his own workshop in 1991, becoming fully independent.
As well as building new instruments, he devotes himself to repairing, restoring and maintaining bows.
In 1990, he met Maestro Giuseppe Stefanini. From 1994 onwards, he received valuable advice from Maestro Giancarlo Guicciardi, learning his building technique while continuing to develop his own skills.
He draws inspiration from Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù models for violins, and uses his own models for violas.
He uses an internal mould with willow wood parts and prefers oil varnish.
He has been a member of the A.L.I. since 2000.
